Week 1- Response to content

The general overview given in regards to the state of communications in todays society and how it has come to be what it is in the lecture has raised some interesting questions. At the current rate of developmet in communications technologies it is hard to say how quickly current conventions will become obsolete. I was going through a cupboard which housed our families old mobile phones recently and there were a total of 16, thats 4 each prior to our current phones, the oldest of which was about 8 or 10 years old. This led me to think of the televisions in our house, all of which had been replaced in the last few years due to the introduction of digital television, the point im trying to make is that every technological advancement leads to a new, potentially expensive upgrade which could be considered one of the issues with new communication technologies. There might be a few more pressing issues, like social degredation due to a lack of nescessary human contact in communication or the disclosure of personal information due to the increased publicaion of personal details on accessable public domains. In todays economy though its hard to put a price on.....a dollar.
